Rajasthan is the jewel in India's crown. From fairy-tale palaces and epic forts to colourful festivals and wildlife encounters, this is India at its vibrant best.
The colours of Rajasthan are impossible to ignore and the effect of emerald green, canary yellow and fire-engine red turbans and saris is simply dazzling. Little wonder so many fashion designers find their inspiration and raw materials in this state. The lucky visitor might even see a flash of orange while tiger-spotting in Ranthambhore National Park.
Stretch your back and legs, and have a fulfilling lunch in one of the plethora of restaurants offered by the city, alongside one of the lakes. After lunch, a visit to City Palace Museum is recommended to witness the splendour of the Mewar Kingdom. Enter the City Palace to see the mesmerizing Sheesh Mahal. Later, take a boat ride in Lake Pichola to experience the serenity of the location and the scenic views. Witness the sound and light show at Manek Chowk to get a glimpse of Rajasthan’s history. For dinner, you can either take a taxi to the Sheesh Mahal for tasting some royal delicacies in the middle of Lake Pichola or you can have a wholesome and delicious dinner at one of the Lakeside restaurants in the mainland.
Begin your day with a boat ride in Lake Fatehsagar. Utilize your second day to witness the architectural marvels and gardens of the city including the Jagdish Temple, Monsoon Palace, Saheliyon Ki Bari, and Doodh Tali Musical Garden.
Take a morning taxi/bus/train ride to the Blue City, Jodhpur. Visit the Mehrangarh Fort and explore its insights. Peek into the Jaswant Thada and leave aw-struck by the architectural wonders. Shop for cultural and traditional handicrafts in the nearby market place but remember you have more to travel so don’t overload yourself!
Experience the desert safari and dine at Indique Restaurant, viewing the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort. Go shopping to Sadar Bazaar to purchase the traditional goodies like handicrafts, and local teas and spices. End your day in the serenity of the Mandore Garden.
Take an early morning train/bus/taxi to Jaisalmer, the Golden City. This World Heritage Site will give you the experience of untouched and preserved architectural beauty. Plan your day such that you get enough time to visit the Jaisalmer Fort, a sprawling fort that forms the skyline of the city. Explore the city’s museums like the Thar Heritage Museum or Folklore Museum.
Unless you want to pack your bags for Jaipur, you could spend another day experiencing the local culture and visiting the Bada Bagh and Patwon Ki Haveli. Eat from the recommended eateries and you will cherish the local flavours for a lifetime or take a desert safari.
Take a flight or overnight train/bus/taxi to Jaipur, also known as the Pink City. Your last destination in Rajasthan might leave you awestruck by the balance of modern and ancestral architecture. Relax yourselves from the tiring journey, and head on to see local monuments like the City Palace, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar. Explore the local cuisine around these landmark monuments.
Explore the Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fort, and end your day at the sun-set point in the city. Eat some snacks or dinner near Jal Mahal, satisfying your taste buds with the local street food.
