Ever since the Beatles rocked up at the ashram of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the late '60s, Rishikesh has been a magnet for spiritual seekers. Today it styles itself as the ‘Yoga Capital of the World’, with masses of ashrams and all kinds of yoga and meditation classes.

Most of this action is north of the main town, where the exquisite setting on the fast-flowing Ganges, surrounded by forested hills, is conducive to meditation and mind expansion. In the evening, an almost supernatural breeze blows down the valley, setting temple bells ringing as sadhus ('holy' men), pilgrims and tourists prepare for the nightly ganga aarti (river worship ceremony). You can learn to play the sitar or tabla; try Hasya yoga (laughter therapy), practise meditation or take a punt on crystal healing.

Day 1(Spiritual)

Rishikesh is medley of adventure tourism and spiritual tourism. Not only does it have a dozen of sports, but also offers the serenity and placid environment which one requires away from the urban city life. Rishikesh, also known as the yoga capital, offers a variety of yoga workshops where you can get a glimpse of this ancient Indian practice and learn a few asanas (yoga positions). You can enjoy yoga for a few hours and then head for the Kunjapuri Devi Temple to witness hindu rituals and scenic views of the Gangotri peak and Bandarpunch peak. After visiting the temple, the next activity could be lunch, to satisfy your hunger and gain some energy for the rest of the day. Next, you can visit the Sivananda Ashram for some experiencing some peace and meditation. After rejuvenating your senses at the temple, you can visit the Parmarth Niketan Temple which is located very close to the famous Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula. In the evening, it will be the best time to view the evening aarti at Triveni Ghat which is a prayer performance to celebrate the Hindu cultures. After that you could have a wholesome dinner and head back to your hotel for taking good rest as your next day will be filled with adventure and sports.

Day 2(Adventure)

The sport which Rishikesh is most famous for, is river rafting in the rapids of the Ganges river. You must start your day with river rafting from a point close to your hotel/resort and with a reliable rafting company recommended by us. During the rafting experience, you will swim in the Ganges river, move through the strong rapids and do cliff jumping. Next, if you’re not afraid of heights, you should definitely go for bungee jumping as it is one of India’s best places for the sport. After taking a free fall from the heights, you should go for the “swing”, a regular swing except that it hangs in the middle of two cliffs. You could go for more sports such as zipline, flying fox, rappelling, rock climbing, kayaking and paint ball, if you are not tired or if you plan to extend your stay by another day (which is recommended).
